Care That Came Home

“My sister passed away on February 10th after a long and courageous fight with cancer. The only request she had was to not be moved from her home” Michele Anderson explains. Her sister, Karen Kimberly Kuhn, had one final wish; to remain in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by the people and things she loved most.

A close friend, who was also a retired CNA, contacted Compass for help. Within hours, Compass delivered a bed and the essential equipment she would need. But what they provided went far beyond medical supplies. They brought compassion, comfort, dignity, and peace to both the patient and those who loved her. “They made her laugh! They gave her grace,” Michele explains. “And they walked me through everything that was happening.”

The family shared that every person from Compass who spoke with them or cared for her during her final days was absolutely amazing. One of her greatest fears was having to leave her home to enter hospice care. Instead, Compass came to her, allowing her to stay in the place where she felt safest and most at peace.

Each day, she spoke about the kindness of the staff, the laughs they shared together, and the honest and compassionate way they answered every question she had. They made her smile during incredibly difficult moments and gave grace and reassurance to both her and her family.

Because of Compass’ care, she was able to spend her final days exactly where she wanted to be — at home, surrounded by friends and her beloved cat, Peanut.

Her family and friends remain deeply grateful for the gift Compass gave them: the ability for her to pass with dignity, comfort, and love in the place she called home.

Michele concludes by thanking each and everyone of one the staff at Compass who helped care for Karen. “By the grace of God, my sister's last wishes were fulfilled. Many heartfelt thanks to each and every one of the people at Compass who helped care for her.”
